Race Across the West Crew
We're doing RAW with a crew of 6 hardy souls supporting us. They have a great mix of grit, experience, and grace under pressure.
Ian Hoffman - crew chief. Ian has crewed for a number of races. He crewed Bill and I for Race Across Oregon. He's crewed RAAM and RAW as well. Ian is pictured here in his Quest.
Phil Bradley trained under the best - his dad - and we're extremely grateful that he's coming along for this trip. After a number of years wasted in DC, Phil has come to his senses, gotten married, and moved back to the West Coast. He rides a Bacchetta CA2.0.
Seriously? This guy needs an introduction? OK. Jim Kern has raced anything with two tires (and rumor has it, soon to be three...). This is a picture of him finishing the Badwater 135 last July. Note the pirate flag. Bill and I were on his crew for that epic adventure. Now you know how to get Jim Kern to crew for you, too!

Jennifer Johnson is NOT just another chick who decided to open a bike shop: she's a BADASS chick who owns arguably the coolest bike shop on the planet. (Personal opinion - to be the coolest bike shop on the planet you would have to be located in Arcata, CA, so she's got a pretty big head start on the competition). Jennifer is an amazing athlete, too. Among her many palmares, she has finished the epic Leadville 100 mountain bike race. She also volunteers extensively in the community.
Jan Werren - Jan is recently retired from the US Forest Service, and is an avid member of the Latte Warriors cycling club. Here she is out on a sunny Sunday trying to camouflage herself amongst some lupine. (Yes, this passes as a sunny day in Arcata: you can actually see blue sky in the background, and it's not raining. We'll be charitable and assume that there's no shadow because the photo was snapped at high noon...) Jan is new to crewing, but she and Willard both put in some time on my ill-fated track attempt. And they're back for more!
Willard Foote - Willard is a bike adventurer for sure. This is a picture of him taken at Bandon during Cycle Oregon. His favorite accomplishment (to date) has been the Death Valley Fall Double, which he did in 2012. Also recently retired, Willard has had quite a bit of time to brush up on his golf game. But something tells me he's been busy doing other stuff.
